“At least this corridor seems heated,” Maxim says as he and Bennie head off down the long, moderately well-lit service corridor leading to the main research complex.

Bennie, finally warm, looks up at his big friend. “So, what do you think we’re getting ourselves into? We know it can’t be Peacekeepers, rogue or otherwise. We just left that party. It can’t be some super computer intelligence. We’ve done that already. What would be the odds?”

Maxim tuts, “You’re courting disaster saying things like that.”

Ignoring his big friend, Bennie continues. “Well, it definitely isn’t massive living starships. We’re underground.”

Maxim sighs. “You’ve doomed us.”

This time it’s Bennies turn to tut at his friend, “Such a worrier. Maybe some type of ancient evil,” he says the last part with extra emphasis while making waving motions with his hands, “has been awoken and plans to devour our souls.” He chuckles. “Or something like that.”

“I hope whatever it is, eats you first,” Maxim says, his head swiveling back and forth as he scans the tunnel ahead.
